Why?!!!!!: 4 Teens Kidnap & Torture Special Needs 18-Year-Old On Facebook Live

It’s cruel and terrible that anyone would do this, but also plain stupid to broadcast it on the internet.

Four 18-year olds were arrested in Chicago after kidnapping, restraining, and torturing a special needs classmate on Facebook Live.

The teenage victim was reported missing after his parents hadn’t seen him all weekend. They had, however, received texts from an unknown number telling them their son was being held captive.

Soon after police were called to investigate the texts, they found the Facebook video. It’s since been deleted, but the thirty-minute clip shows the victim tied up and gagged while being repeatedly kicked and punched. The attackers repeatedly yell things like, “f*ck Donald Trump” and “f*ck white people.” At one point, one of the assailants cuts a patch of scalp of the victim’s head.

The victim was picked up by a separate police force within the next few hours. He was wondering alone and “in crisis,” completely unable to communicate for nearly half a day. When he finally did speak, he claimed he was held for about 24 hours, and was able to identify one of his attackers from school. Police put two and two together, and swiftly arrested all four people involved with the video.

Chicago police have had a rough year. The Windy City saw a record number of homicides in 2o16—a terrifying 762 in just 12 months. And now they’re dealing with a potential hate crime: the victim was white, and all his assailants black.

“Although they are adults, they're 18,” says an officer working the case. “Kids make stupid decisions -- I shouldn't call them kids; they're legally adults, but they're young adults, and they make stupid decisions.

"That certainly will be part of whether or not ... we seek a hate crime, to determine whether or not this is sincere or just stupid ranting and raving."

What do you think? Stupid kids, or racially motivated hate crime?
