WHO IS THIS?!!! Baseball Legend Sammy Sosa Lightens His Skin

Sami Sosa Skin Bleaching

It shouldn't be debated that Sammy Sosa was one of the best baseball players to play for the Chicago Cubs, maybe even in the entire league.

But despite his iconic status and how his success inspired so many little boys of color, it's pretty clear that the 49-year-old Dominican man doesn't like looking Black. Hence, his years of OBVIOUS skin bleaching.

Peep this before and after:

But it's his most recent sighting in London that has folks REALLY talking! Look at this...

Here he is dabbing.

As the New York Post noted, Sosa’s complexion has made headlines since he retired from the game in 2009. It seems like year after year, the baseball hero was getting lighter and lighter. So much so, Sosa eventually admitted to Univision that he's been using a skin bleaching cream to achieve this look.

“It’s a bleaching cream that I apply before going to bed and whitens my skin some,” Sosa told Univision.

“It’s a cream that I have, that I use to soften [my skin], but has bleached me some. I’m not a racist, I live my life happily.

“What happened was that I had been using the cream for a long time and that, combined with the bright TV lights, made my face look whiter than it really is. I don’t think I look like Michael Jackson.”

Does he also have a relaxer?

We hope he isn't passing this self-hate to his beautiful brown kids. Here's his son, Sammy Sosa Jr.

While it's easy to laugh and even judge him for all of this, sadly Sammy Sosa isn't the only one lightening his skin.

Skin bleaching is an estimated 10-20 billion dollar industry around the world, being especially popular in African, Asian and Caribbean countries like the DR where Sosa is from.

According to Quartz, in 2012, India alone used 258 tons of skin-lightening cream and in Lagos, Nigeria, one survey found that up to 77% of all residents use skin-lightening creams.

Granted, this is all pretty complicated. We do live in a light-skinned obsessed society where the standard of beauty is everything lighter than a brown paper bag. So clearly, we have some serious work left to do!

But skin bleaching ain't the answer.
