“Did Dr. Conrad Murray kill Michael Jackson?”
This new trailer for Searching for Neverland doesn’t pull any punches as it teases a serious look at the final years of Jackson’s life.
The film is based on a 2014 book published by Jackson’s bodyguards, Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard. In the teaser, you can hear one of those guards lay out the movie’s theme: “He doesn’t want to be the King of Pop. He just wants to be Mike.”
While that sounds like a lighthearted premise that'll simply follow Jackson's struggle with balancing fame and family, the trailer leads with the darker aspects of those last years -- namely, what led to the singer’s death.
Michael’s not the first celebrity to have an unsactioned Lifetime movie made about him – they’ve also told the stories of Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton and Britney Spears. Those films received *ahem* extremely mixed reviews.
Jackson will be played by the self-proclaimed Greatest Michael Jackson Impersonator in the World, a man named Navi. You can see a few clips of his work below, and judge for yourself whether or not he does the King justice:
