Yet another church has been vandalized with hate speech and threats, as it looks like racists are getting even bolder with Donald Trump soon entering into office.
Over in Evansville, Indiana, the historically black Liberty Missionary Baptist Church was defaced with grafitti saying to “Kill All Koons” on the back door. The words “Koons Inside” were also tagged on the church van! To think, this all happened just one day after the church’s Thanksgiving celebration, where the congregation fed almost 300 people. This is the second time threats have been made to the church, with graffiti being found on the sidewalk just three weeks before!
And, though this is nothing new, sadly, many places of worship have been defaced before and after the presidential election, including notably the Hopewell Baptist Church in Greenville, MS in early November.
In fact, following Trump’s election win, almost 900 hate crimes have occurred targeting places of worship, including mosques, synagogues and churches.
Rev. Todd Robertson from Liberty Missionary admits that he’s never experienced anything like this in the 17 years he’s been pastoring there. However, he’s optimistic that good will rise over evil. “I know there seems to be a rise across the country of ill will toward certain groups of people,” the pastor said in an interview. “But we keep preaching, we will overcome evil with good.”
It’s just sickening that this keeps happening, and has seemed to increase since Trump won. Makes you really wonder what all we will experience once he’s actually sworn in!
