If you love the 90s and great performances, then run to see the Bodyguard U.S. tour headlined by R&B songstress Deborah Cox.
They say that no one should try to sing like the late great Whitney Houston, but Deborah Cox absolutely slays in the Bodyguard musical. She was fabulous when she sang the vocals for the part of Whitney in Lifetime's biopic a few years back, so we aren't shocked she's killing it now.
Take a look at this trailer for the 2017 tour:
The show features lights, glitz, glam, back up dancers and some seriously good live singing from Ms. Cox, whose voice does all of the Whitney tunes justice. At age 42, Deborah is looking and sounding better than ever, looking stunning on stage as the pop diva Rachel Marron. Here's Deborah looking gorgeous during a recent appearance on "the Wendy Williams Show."
Her co-star Judson Mills who plays Frank Farmer (aka the Bodyguard) is also a 90s throwback who was a regular on "Walker Texas Ranger" with Chuck Norris. Mills and Norris did some other work together, and now Judson is playing the tough guy with a heart of gold opposite Deborah Cox.
The supporting cast also has some amazing new faces. The lovely Jasmin Richardson plays Rachel's sister, Nikki. Richardson gets a few numbers of her own and her voice is powerful and holds its own in duet with Deborah. Another highlight is the 9 year old Douglas Baldeo who shows off some serious singing and dancing chops in his role as Rachel's son, Fletcher. He's already starred in the Broadway show "Kinky Boots," and he's definitely one of those kids with a golden voice who we know we will hear more from in the future. Here's a clip of Douglas's dance moves:
The cast of this show seems to be enjoying this run quite a bit, and seemed to be having a lot of fun on stage while in character and at the end of the show where they collected money for AIDS charity Broadway Cares.
The Bodyguard musical will be hitting select american cities throughout the spring. If it comes to a city near you, definitely go support this cast full of #BlackExcellence
